A Waterford Township man is facing child pornography charges after federal authorities said they found a stash of the explicit material at his home this week.

Virgil Napier Jr. is alleged to have accessed multiple posts at a website known to display child porn, including one with a link to an image that depicted thumbnails of a video showing a girl, believed to be 5 years old, performing a sex act, according to an affidavit filed in U.S. District Court.

The FBI executed a search warrant Monday. During an interview with special agents, Napier admitted he started collecting child porn more than five years ago, viewed the images daily and frequented online chat rooms to meet girls aged 10-14, convincing them “to pose in sexually explicit positions and/or expose themselves, and recorded videos of them,” the affidavit said.

Napier admitted to creating an estimated 100 to 200 such videos, some of which he broadcast to others, the document stated.

Authorities also found “numerous child pornography thumbnails on his computer that appeared to be links to longer videos,” an FBI special agent wrote in the filing.

Napier is charged with receiving and possessing child pornography.

Federal court records indicate a magistrate judge ordered him into temporary detention. A federal public defender, who didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment, also was appointed.
