Rochester Hills — A Shelby Township man is behind bars after allegedly stabbing himself and then blaming his wife after an argument.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department, the incident occurred at about 6:30 p.m. Monday in a parking lot in the 6000 block of Orion Road.

Police responded to the area after receiving a report of a felonious assault that occurred when a 40-year-old man and his 28-year-old wife were exchanging children’s clothing.

It was alleged to officers the man had been stabbed by his wife, who also resides in Shelby Township. The man was treated and released by medics from the Rochester Hills Fire Department.

But information gathered at the scene began to contradict initial reports that the man had been stabbed by his wife.

Upon further investigation, it was determined the man had purposely stabbed himself and had then threatened his wife with the stabbing instrument.

The man was arrested for felonious assault and filing a false police report. He remains in the Oakland County Jail.
