The woman killed in Southfield early Tuesday after being hit by a vehicle that did not stop has been identified, police said.

Lashawn Renee Dawson, 44, of Detroit, was walking westbound on Eight Mile, between Southfield and Evergreen , when she was hit just before 3 a.m., according to Sounthfield Police. The vehicle that hit her fled southbound on Evergreen. While police say they are looking for the vehicle, there was not yet a description available.

Police said Dawson was not carrying identification.

Police describe the vehicle as dark-colored and will have “significant front end damage” from the collision.
