Michigan State Police are investigating a fatal car accident after a man was found Friday in his vehicle in a Holly Township ditch.

At 11:20 a.m., troopers were dispatched to the area of South Holly and Hickory Ridge on a report of a vehicle in a ditch. It was updated to a personal injury accident with the driver not responding, according to police.

When troopers arrived, North Oakland County Fire and EMS told them the man was unresponsive and had no pulse. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

An initial investigation indicated the driver was traveling east on South Holly and approaching Hickory Ridge when he ran off the road and hit a utility pole.

Police do not believe the man was wearing his seat belt. He was found lying partly in the back seat of the vehicle, which was heavily damaged on the driver’s side.

The name of the driver and any other details about him have not been released pending notification of family. The man’s body was taken to the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s office for further investigation.
