A 6-year-old girl who police initially said was recovering from a pool accident last week at the Beverly Hills Club died Thursday, Beverly Hills police said.

She was pulled from the pool around 6:30 p.m. April 22 after being found unresponsive.

Life-saving measures were applied before the girl was transported to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak for additional treatment.

The Beverly Hills Club said in the statement that the pool incident happened during a birthday party.

According to the club, lifeguards were on duty during the party, life jackets were available and the pool was well-below the maximum number of swimmers allowed per lifeguard.

“During this very difficult time for the child's loved ones, on behalf of the entire Beverly Hills Club family, I want to share my deepest condolences with the parents and sibling of this little girl,” club president Steven Satovsky said in the statement. “Out of respect for the privacy of the family, we are not making public the name of the child.”
