DTE Energy crews were working late Wednesday afternoon to restore electricity for about 7,500 customers in the Southfield area without power.

An equipment failure caused the outage around 4:45 p.m., according to DTE Energy spokeswoman Jill Wilmot. She said she did not have details regarding the equipment.

Most of the outages in Southfield are between Eight and 10 Mile, Inkster and Lahser roads, according to the DTE Energy outage map. A neighboring portion of Detroit is also without power between Seven and Eight Mile roads.

At least half of the outages are expected to be restored by 6:45 p.m., Wilmot said.
