Oakland County man to face trial in child porn case
An Oakland County man was ordered to stand trial on sexual assault charges tied to a child pornography case.
Colin Matthew Boyle had a probable cause conference this week at the 52/3 District Court in Rochester Hills and is scheduled for an arraignment July 5, police said. Court records show Boyle also is a registered sex offender with multiple convictions.
The charges stem from a Federal Bureau of Investigation probe with Lake Orion police assistance into production and distribution of child porn.
A search warrant was executed at his home on Nov. 9, 2015. Based on the computers and other storage media removed there, Boyle was arrested, charged and arraigned through a federal indictment “on multiple counts of producing and receiving large volumes of child pornography,” police said in a Friday statement.
According to an affidavit filed in U.S. District Court, agents raided the Lake Orion home of hihs parents and the White Lake Township house where he and his wife live.
Among the items agents found while searching the White Lake home was a “point and click” camera containing video that showed a naked 1-year-old girl, according to an affidavit. Boyle and his wife both admitted to engaging the child and a 3-year-old boy in sexually explicit activity on at least four occasions, the filing showed.
A federal indictment in November charged the couple with conspiracy to produce, producing, distributing, receiving and possessing child porn.
Working with federal officials, Lake Orion Police investigators also determined there were sexual assaults at his home. Charges were obtained from the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office.
“All of the investigators on this case were disturbed by the type and the extensive volume of material recovered during this investigation,” Lake Orion police said in a release. “One seasoned investigator stated this was the worst case he has investigated in his 20-year career.”
Boyle was arraigned June 13 before 52/3 District Court Magistrate Melinda Balian on three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a person under age 13. Bond was set at $750,000.
He was returned to the Oakland County Jail pending court action, officials said.
His trial is set for Oakland County Circuit Court.

“This type of investigation will always rock a community to its core and the gravity of the crime and the helplessness of the victims impacts even seasoned investigators,” Lake Orion Police Chief Jerry Narsh said. “There may be more that comes from this investigation. The excellent cooperative efforts between federal, state and local law enforcement allows us to continue to detect, locate and prosecute individuals who commit these crimes.”
