Police: Woman driver intoxicated, had kids in car

A 25-year-old Lapeer woman was arrested after police say she was driving while impaired — with young children in the car — in an early-morning, mid-June encounter with Bloomfield Township police.

On June 18 at about 3 a.m., Bloomfield Township police assisted a neighboring police department in helping the occupants of a disabled red 1998 Chevy Blazer in the area of Interstate 75 and Adams Road.

Inside the vehicle, they found a 25-year-old Lapeer woman in the driver’s seat, “wearing only a tank top and underwear.” Also in the car were an adult male in the passenger’s seat and two children, 2 and 3 years old, in the backseat.

Police say the woman was sluggish and smelled of alcohol, which she allegedly attributed to drinking a few beers at a party in Pontiac earlier that night. After police obtained consent to search the woman’s purse, they allegedly found a prescription bottle of Xanax.

The woman allegedly had “multiple suspensions on her driver’s license,” and was arrested for driving with a suspended license and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

“Further investigation showed the driver had a prior OWI conviction out of Lapeer in 2011,” a statement on the incident said.

The woman was held “until sober,” and released.

“The children were turned over to a responsible adult family member,” the statement said.

Charges have been sent over to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office for review, but as of early Monday morning, no charging decision had been made.
