A Detroit man was killed Sunday morning when he ran across Eight Mile in Royal Oak Township and was struck by a passing vehicle, according to Michigan State Police.

The collision occurred around 11:35 a.m. on Eight Mile near Meyers, officials said in a release. The 28-year-old man was hit by a 2001 Ford truck traveling westbound.

It is believed he was under the influence of alcohol when he crossed the road, police said.

“The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where he later died,” officials said. “The driver of the pickup truck, a 39-year-old female from Detroit, stopped at the scene.”

The driver was taken into custody after police determined she had a suspended license and a warrant for her arrest, according to officials. Investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
