A 72-year-old Rochester Hills woman is in police custody after allegedly assaulting her 90-year-old husband at a local business Friday, then resisting arrest, police said.

The incident started just before 4 p.m. at a business on the 1900 block of Star Batt Drive, when a 911 caller told police a woman was physically assaulting her husband at the store.

When Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies arrived, they determined there was probable cause that the woman had assaulted not only her husband, but an employee of the store, a 49-year-old Lake Orion woman.

A deputy told the woman she was under arrest and began to handcuff her, but she allegedly started to pull away. She and the deputy fell to the ground during the struggle, and the deputy fell on his left shoulder. Later, he said he had pain and numbness in his left arm, a statement from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said.

The woman was arrested for domestic assault and obstructing a police officer, causing injury.

The deputy was treated at St. John Oakland Hospital in Madison Heights, and has been released.
