The body of a 63-year-old Wixom man who disappeared Sunday night after jumping into an Oakland County lake for a swim has been recovered, police said Sunday.

The swimmer, Dale Pacynski, was out on a boat on Loon Lake Saturday night with his wife when he jumped into the water for a swim, Wixom Police Lt. Ron Moore said.

He was never seen alive again.

His wife attempted to search the area, but then left and called for help. Wixom police and fire departments were dispatched at about 10:30 p.m., and the fire department had a boat in the water 20 minutes later.

Divers from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office arrived about an hour later and outside of a break at 5 a.m. to wait for sunlight, searched around the clock, Moore said.

“We were all hoping for a good end to this story, but it was not so,” Moore told The Detroit News about 20 minutes after the swimmer’s body was recovered at 12:10 p.m.

“The mood is pretty somber around here,” Moore said.

Moore offered praise for the public in keeping the lake clear so divers could do their work.

“It’s a beautiful Sunday and [people kept the lake clear],” Moore said. “They gave a wide berth to the searchers.”
