A woman was arrested after allegedly driving drunk with her 8-year-old daughter in the backseat, Oakland County Sheriff’s officials said.

A deputy patrolling near Dixie Highway and Andersonville Road spotted the woman’s vehicle running a red light at about 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

“The vehicle continued north on Dixie Highway driving in a manner that led the deputy to believe that the driver may be intoxicated,” the release read.

After pulling her over, the deputy noted “a strong odor of intoxicants” on the 28-year-old driver and saw the child behind her, investigators said.

The Harrison Township resident told deputies she had been drinking earlier, according to the release.

She was arrested for operating while intoxicated and taken to McLaren Oakland to have her blood drawn. The woman later was held at the Oakland County Jail on the OWI charge and child endangerment, as well as “several other outstanding traffic warrants and a felony warrant for probation violation from the 6th Circuit Court,” sheriff’s officials said.

Meanwhile, the 8-year-old was turned over to her father, who has custody and lives in Ferndale. Child protective services officials also were notified.

The case is expected to be turned over to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office once the blood results are back from Michigan State Police, officials said Wednesday.
