A 40-year-old man was shot in the leg late Tuesday while struggling with two attempted home invaders inside his Farmington home, according to police.

The victim was shot in the upper leg around 9 p.m. at the Mooney Street Apartments near Orchard Lake and Shiawassee, police said in a statement. Officers provided first aid until the man was transported by ambulance to Beaumont Hospital-Farmington Hills, where he was listed in stable condition.

The victim told detectives he answered a knock at his door, where two suspects claimed they had car trouble. The men asked to use the victim’s phone and forced entry into the home when the victim refused.

“One of the men was armed with a pistol and shot the victim in the leg,” police said. “Both men then fled the apartment.”

The suspects were dressed all in black, officials said. No further description was available.

Although the suspects have not yet been identified, police have “determined that there is no immediate threat to the public as a result of this incident,” officials said.

Investigators are interviewing the victim and witnesses in an attempt to identify the suspects. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at (248) 474-4700.
