Elderly man with dementia dies of hypothermia
Brandon Township – — The body of a man suffering from dementia was discovered last week in a canal near his home.
The man, 89, whose name wasn’t released by law enforcement officials, died from hypothermia, said the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
The man was discovered Friday morning after a neighbor who regularly checks on him noticed the man’s garage door had been left open.
The neighbor checked the home in the 1900 block of Lake Pointe Drive in Brandon Township and, after being joined by another neighbor, began checking the area, said the Sheriff’s Office.
They then discovered the man in a nearby canal, floating face up. An autopsy found the victim died of hypothermia, the Sheriff’s Office said.
