A 30-year-old Troy man died after he was ejected when the vehicle he was driving struck a median on Interstate 75 on Sunday morning, Troy police said.

Joshua Watkins was driving his black 2013 Cadillac CTS southbound on I-75 early Sunday morning in Troy with a 21-year-old woman from Pontiac. Police say Watkins lost control of the car and hit the median guardrail, then traveled across the roadway and hit a guardrail on the shoulder side as well. The Cadillac overturned and Watkins, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected onto the roadway. He died at the scene.

The woman he was with “was able to exit the vehicle,” according to a statement from the Troy Police Department. She only sustained minor injuries.

Police are investigating the single-car crash and believe that alcohol and speed were contributing factors.

The fatal crash closed the roadway for almost five hours.
