A 55-year-old man who was found dead early Tuesday likely suffered a medical situation or accidentally fell off a curb outside his Farmington Hills home, police said.

Officials were called around 6:50 a.m. to the Muirwood apartment complex near Grand River and Drake, Assistant Chief Matt Koehn said. Two residents called police after finding the man lying face down outside his building.

"There were some injuries that concerned us when we first got to the scene," said Koehn, adding that the injuries included head trauma. "But after doing an investigation, it appears to be a fall or medical issue."

The body was transported to the Oakland County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy to confirm cause of death.

Police initially treated the incident as a homicide investigation, Koehn said.

"Obviously whenever there's a death, we treat it as suspicious until we can show that it's not," the assistant chief said. "But it does not appear to be suspicious at this time."

Police are not sure why the man, who was found wearing shorts, was outside early Tuesday.
