Ferndale police seek suspects in vacant home burglaries

Ferndale — Police here are asking residents to be on the watch for suspicious persons who have blatantly looted vacant homes of furnaces and other appliances in the past month.

From Jan. 12 to Jan.17, four vacant homes in Ferndale have been burglarized. Police said thieves stole furnaces, hot water heaters, stoves, and refrigerators from the houses. The break-ins have been spread around the city.

Anybody with information should phone the Ferndale Police. Residents who see suspicious activity should phone 911.

It is believed the thieves pull up in a truck or a van to a vacant house with a “for sale” sign on it and commit their crimes while neighbors assume they are doing legitimate work, according to police.

Anyone seeing people working or removing appliances or furniture from homes with “for sale” signs are asked to call police.
