A 53-year-old woman is dead after a two-car crash Tuesday night in Bloomfield Township in which alcohol and speed appear to be factors, police say.

A 43-year-old motorist was driving a 2014 Maserati eastbound on Square Lake at about 9 p.m. when the Maserati rear-ended a 2009 Subaru Legacy, which was driven by the 53-year-old woman.

The Subaru was “pushed off the roadway” and into a barrier fence, Bloomfield Township Police Department said in a statement.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital, but the woman died from her injuries. The driver of the Maserati was in stable condition at last report.

“Alcohol and speed appear to be factors in the incident,” the statement said.

Bloomfield Township police could not immediately be reached for more information.

According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, 54 people have died in car crashes in Michigan in 2017, up through Tuesday afternoon. That’s up six from that time a year ago.
