A 15-year-old Orion Township boy was in critical condition after friend shot him in the head Saturday, police said.

The incident happened at 11:14 p.m. at a home in the 100 block of Wall Street in Pontiac, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. Police continue to investigate the shooting.

Deputies received a 911 call about the shooting. Upon arrival, they were led to a second-story bedroom, where they found the victim with a gunshot wound to his head.

The teen was unconscious and labored to breathe, officials said.

He was taken to a nearby hospital but was transferred to Children’s Hospital in Detroit, where he was in critical condition, police said.

As part of the investigation, detectives spoke to three teens, including the 911 caller, who were at the home when the shooting happened. Police determined one of the teens fired the .32-caliber handgun that injured the victim.

Investigators found the weapon in the backyard of a neighboring residence.

Officials said the teen suspected in the shooting is being held at Oakland County Children’s Village. The other teens were released to their parents, according to police.

Police also said the suspect and the victim are friends, and investigators are trying to determine if the gun was discharged accidentally.
