Cops: Man steals car, runs, gets Tasered, arrested
A police search for a Chevy HHR stolen from Waterford Township resulted in the arrest of a 23-year-old Pontiac man early Wednesday morning.
The arrest took place about 1:30 a.m. in the area of Genesee and Washington, when Oakland County sheriffs deputies were looking for a Chevy HHR that had been stolen earlier in neighboring Waterford. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is the law enforcement agency in Pontiac.
Police saw a man walking between two homes at the same time they spotted the stolen HHR. When they got out of their car to talk to the man, he took off running “while grabbing at his waistband,” a statement on the incident said.
The foot pursuit continued, and eventually deputies were close enough to use a Taser on the man. But the barbs only contacted his clothes, not his body.
In time police were able to make the arrest, at which point they found a loaded .380 semi-automatic handgun.
The suspect is at Oakland County Jail, pending charges, and the gun has been taken as evidence.
