Three miles of SB M-5 in Oakland Co. to close Saturday
Michigan's Department of Transportation reminded motorists Friday it plans to close a three-mile stretch of eastbound M-5 for construction work this weekend.
Beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday, the agency will close eastbound M-5 between 12 Mile and Pontiac Trail between Novi and Commerce Township to begin concrete pavement repairs, officials said. The $3.5 million project is expected to be completed in late June.
The work is one of more than 100 road repair projects worth about $300 million MDOT will undertake across the state.
Officials said MDOT is coordinating its M-5 project with local agencies and expects to have it finished before the Road Commission for Oakland County starts work in the same area.
To expedite the project, MDOT said it has to completely close M-5 in one direction at a time, starting with the southbound lanes.
However, all roads crossing M-5 will remain open with one lane open in each direction through the intersections, according to MDOT.
Officials also said the 12 Mile Road ramps to southbound M-5 will remain open while the southbound lanes are closed.
