A 25-year-old Sterling Heights man has been charged with striking the victim of a fatal hit-and-run in March as she lay in the road, Madison Heights Police said Monday.

Officials said investigators are still looking for the driver of the first vehicle that struck and killed 26-year-old Nadea Kassab on March 5.

Meanwhile, Savion Raad-Aziz Zahrah was charged in 43rd District Court with failure to stop at the scene of a personal injury accident, according to authorities. The crime carries a penalty of up to a year in prison or a $1 million fine or both. Earlier this month, Zahrah pleaded guilty and was sentenced to pay a $1,175 fine, the police said Monday in a statement.

In March, police said two cars struck Kassab as she walked home from a restaurant, crossing Concord Drive, just south of 14 Mile at about 12:05 a.m. She was not in a designated crosswalk, officials said.

They said a a silver, 4-door car struck Kassab first and then slowed after the collision before continuing south on Concord. Officials said the car may have damaged its front end, hood or windshield.

A black car struck Kassab seconds later as she lay in the roadway, according to police.

Zahrah, who officials said was driving the second car, turned himself into police on April 26.
