A party bus broken down on the side of Interstate-75 in Troy was struck by a car early Sunday morning, leaving one dead and nine others injured, police said.

The crash occurred on the northbound side of the freeway south of Adams Road at around 3 a.m. The bus, which had 24 passengers in it, was stopped on the shoulder due to a mechanical issue. It was struck by a 2003 yellow Pontiac Sunfire that was traveling on the shoulder.

The passenger in the car, a 22-year-old man, was pronounced dead on the scene and had to be removed from the vehicle by the Troy Fire Department. The driver, also a 22-year-old male, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Royal Oak Beaumont by ambulance. There were no other occupants in the car.

In the bus, 8 occupants incurred minor injuries and were treated at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland in Pontiac.
