Man arrested in fatal beating of cat with hammer
A Rochester Hills man has been arrested after police say he allegedly beat his roommate's cat to death with a hammer.
Police reported that the cat owner said he tried to stop his roommate Wednesday when his roommate began striking the cat but was shoved away. He fled the residence to call 911.
Police responded to the 700 block of Machette Court, where they found the suspect, a 33-year-old male, in his bedroom with the dead cat at his feet and a bloody hammer nearby.
"Deputies were able to take the responsible into custody without incident," according to a news release from Oakland County Sheriff's Office.
He was arrested and taken to Oakland County Jail. Animal cruelty charges are pending, police said. His name is being withheld until an arraignment.
What prompted the killing is unknown and the Oakland County Sheriff Office said the case is under investigation.
