Southfield police look to ID suspect in home invasion, assault
Southfield police are asking the public for help to identify a man who broke into a home and repeatedly punched its owner in the head.
The incident happened at about 1:15 p.m. on July 29 in the 21000 block of Poinciana near Inkster and Eight Mile roads, police said Monday.
The suspect is described as an African-American male with a medium-light complexion, slender build and between the ages of 15-20. He was wearing a red shirt.
Police released a composite sketch of the suspect.
According to officials, the man forced open a screen door of the home, entered and approached a 67-year-old resident, who was sleeping on the couch.
The suspect then began punching the man in the head.
The victim's wife, 74, tried to call the police, but the suspect attacked her, took the phone from her hands and continued to strike her husband in the face and head with the phone.
The victim suffered bruises and lacerations to his face. His wife sustained an injury to her knee.
Police said the victims told investigators they do not know the suspect, who left their home without taking anything.
