Troy Police are waiting for results of an autopsy on remains found Sunday in a wooded area behind a store on Coolidge Highway between 14 Mile and Maple Road, officials said.

The remains, a skull and some bones, were found early Sunday morning in an area behind a Home Depot store and next to railroad tracks, said Sgt. Meghan Lehman, a Troy Police spokeswoman. The area is on the border of Troy and Birmingham.

She said it appears the remains had been there for some time. Officials believe the remains are male. Officials believe the deceased was someone who was local to the area.

"There's no indication of foul play," Lehman said. "And we do not have a confirmed ID on the remains yet."

She said a passerby was walking in the area, found the remains and called police at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

The person who made the call contacted Birmingham Police, which then contacted Troy Police, Lehman said.
