An Orion Township woman found unresponsive in the snow earlier this week died of hypothermia, Oakland County officials said.

Authorities say the 63-year-old was found around 4 p.m. Wednesday lying face down in the snow in the 2900 block of Rockford Court by her son.

Police said after finding his mother unresponsive, the 37-year-old son began to administer CPR until he was relieved by Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies. The woman was then transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

An autopsy conducted Thursday by the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office found no signs of foul play. The death was ruled accidental and caused by hypothermia.

Authorities say it’s believed the woman, who relatives said had a history of mental illness, was outside for six to eight hours before she was found.

The woman is among two others in Metro Detroit to succumb to the elements after wandering from her home and into the record cold.

A fourth person, Dwayne Johnson, is also believed to have frozen to death. Johnson was found Monday in front of Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church on the city’s east side. His circumstances were unknown, according to Detroit police.
