State trooper hurt, car damaged in single-vehicle crash on I-75
A Michigan State trooper attempting to make a traffic stop on Interstate 75 in Oakland County early Wednesday morning instead hit a median wall, sending the officer to the hospital and damaging the patrol car.
"We were lucky today," wrote the Michigan State Police Twitter page for Metro Detroit, in a tweet about the crash. "Please be careful driving today. Rain and speed are not a good match."
The crash took place about 2:30 a.m. on southbound I-75 at 12 Mile.
According to the Michigan State Police Twitter page for Metro Detroit, the trooper saw a speeding car and tried to catch up to it to pull over the driver. Instead, the trooper lost control of his Dodge Charger and hit a median wall.
Medics transported the trooper to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak for non-life-threatening injuries. He has since been released.
The alleged speeder was never caught.
