A 27-year-old man fatally shot on a Pontiac street Tuesday was found with a pellet gun "that resembles a semi-auto handgun" under his body, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
The shooting took place about 9:39 p.m. in the area of Irwin and Going, which is north of South Boulevard and east of Woodward. Police were called out on a report that a man was lying in the roadway who'd possibly been shot, but the 911 caller was gone by the time deputy sheriffs arrived.
Police found the man with the pellet gun underneath him. He had suffered "significant trauma and was not conscious or breathing."
Medics pronounced him dead at the scene as investigators canvassed the area for witnesses and clues.
The victim's autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday. Police are investigating the homicide.
