Victim of fatal Southfield condo fire identified

The victim of a fatal condo fire in Southfield earlier this month has been identified as LaVora Cook. She was 47.
On Sunday, March 11, about 5:05 a.m., Southfield Fire Department responded to a fire at Greenbrooke Park Homes, which is off 10 Mile and Telegraph.
The fire at Greenbrooke Park Homes was called in at about 5:05 a.m., said Southfield Fire Department Battalion Chief Greg Gekiere. A neighbor called in the fire and reported that a woman and her dog were inside.
Firefighters arrived to find an "aggressive fire" coming from the second floor of the unit, said Battalion Chief Greg Gekiere at the time. The second floor of the home collapsed, but Cook died.
Cook's injuries required the Oakland County Medical Examiner to identify her using dental records. Her cause of death was smoke inhalation and "thermal injuries," said Casimir Miarka of the Oakland County Medical Examiner's office. Her manner of death is accidental.
Southfield Fire Department did not immediately respond to an information request.
