Oakland County man held in abuse of 5-month-old
Lyon Township – A 23-year-old New Hudson man is in custody and expected to face charges of abusing a 5-month-old boy, who remains hospitalized with numerous injuries.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office reports deputies were dispatched Thursday to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital, where a Children’s Protective Services caseworker advised them of possible child abuse. The baby had internal injuries as well as visible injuries to his face, head and abdomen.
In subsequent interviews, the mother told authorities she and her son were living with her boyfriend and that she had noticed bruising on the child over the previous several days. The mother had contacted the baby’s physician and sought immediate care when the bruises got worse.
Deputies found the boyfriend at his workplace and took him to the sheriff’s substation to be interviewed. He was jailed after it was determined, deputies said, that the physical abuse of the baby occurred while the mother was gone from the home.
The child remains hospitalized, the suspect jailed and the matter to be reviewed for possible charges.
