Hazmat drop-off, shredding May 5 in Farmington Hills
Farmington Hills and Oakland Community College are teaming up to hold an annual household hazardous materials drop-off next month.
From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 5 in the parking lot #3at the OCC Orchard Ridge Campus, 27055 Orchard Lake Road, residents from Farmington Hills, Farmington, Milford Township, Milford, Novi, South Lyon, Southfield, Walled Lake and Wixom can drop off hazardous materials.
Items accepted include oil-based paints, batteries, automotive fluids, pesticides, medications, aerosols, CFL bulbs, mercury, propane, electronics such as TVs, radios, VHS/DVD players, computers and peripheral devices, officials announced Thursday.
Residents, who must attend with a driver’s license or other proof of residency, also can bring up to 100 pounds of sensitive documents for shredding on site.
Containers must be labeled, not hold more than five gallons or weigh more than 50 pounds, and should be placed in a sturdy box. Coordinators will not accept latex paint, commercial or business waste, smoke detectors, radioactive waste or explosives.
