Pontiac — A 20-year-old Pontiac man was in custody and expected to be charged Saturday in the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old White Lake Township man, Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies said Friday.

Deputies were sent to the 200 block of High Street in Pontiac about 2:30 p.m. Thursday on a “shots fired” run. They found someone performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a man lying on the ground in front of a residence.

A witness, who described the victim as her boyfriend, said he had been shot by a suspect she knew by name and who fled the area in a black sport utility vehicle, according to deputies.

Deputies took over CPR until paramedics arrived, but the victim was pronounced at the scene by telemetry — likely meaning by a hospital emergency worker who was receiving the transmission of the victim’s vital information.

They began canvassing the area and determined the suspect’s full identity from other witnesses. The suspect’s vehicle was located outside an Auburn Hills motel, but he could not be found at the location, according to duties. He was later located at a residence on Parkdale Street in Pontiac and taken into custody, interviewed and jailed.

The matter is being reviewed by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office for possible criminal warrants. The victim has not been identified by authorities pending notification of next of kin.
