Feds: Waterford Twp. sex offender sent child porn to undercover agent

A Waterford Township man is facing federal charges for allegedly sending child pornography to an undercover FBI agent through an instant messaging app.
According to an affidavit filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Detroit, the agent last month started communicating on Kik with someone who had the username “mikenlaura1010” and asked “about sexually abusing her purported minor daughter” as well as exchanging explicit pictures.
On June 4, the user allegedly wrote "A lot of people don't realize kids are sexual” before forwarding the agent a photo showing several nude children, the filing stated.
Two days later, “mikenlaura1010” indicated he would swap some videos, sent the agent one of a girl believed to be about 14 years old performing a sex act and asked: “Like?” investigators wrote.
When the agent did not immediately respond, the user messaged: “Dont leave me hanging lol its scary sending that” and asked if her daughter performed similar acts, according to the complaint.
In response to a subpoena, Kik provided account information for the user; the IP address was traced to a home in Waterford Township listed as Michael James Furlong III's residence, the FBI reported.
Investigators also learned the 35-year-old was registered as a sex offender in 2009 following a child porn conviction in Illinois.
Authorities executed a search warrant Wednesday at his home. Furlong told them he was "mikenlaura1010" and had shared files with the undercover agent. He “further admitted that he downloaded and viewed child pornography from the internet, but said that he deleted the files after viewing,” officials wrote.
During a brief hearing at federal court in Detroit before U.S. Magistrate Judge David Grand, Furlong said he understood the charges and requested an attorney.
Grand ordered him held until a detention hearing scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, court records show.
