Oakland County Sheriff's deputies responded to a shooting about 2:40 a.m. Monday in the 100 block of Willard Street. The victim already had been transported to McLaren-Oakland hospital by a witness.
Deputies said the Yaharre Stennis, 14-year-old cousin of Mahone, was shot in the chest and pronounced dead by doctors.
Mahone was arrested at the hospital. During their investigation, deputies found a .357 caliber handgun, a .22 long rifle, 9.9 grams of heroin and a small amount of marijuana.
Mahone's next court date is July 24.
