A Metro Detroit animal advocacy group is seeking help to care for a wounded dog found running through downtown Ferndale on Tuesday.

Bystanders helped save the black pup, dubbed Bjorn Ironside, who was nearly struck by a semitractor while dashing toward Eight Mile in rush hour traffic, Home FurEver officials said on the nonprofit's Facebook page.

"Ultimately he felt safe enough to be leashed, due to the presence of another rescue dog," the post read. "... You can see his back and neck appear to have been burned with chemicals or cut, and his back leg is injured too. He needs a foster home as soon as possible and donations toward vet care."

Donations can be made online. For information, go to homefurever@comcast.net. Those interested in fostering Bjorn are asked to call (313) 645-4399.
