Authorities believe the same man is behind two armed robberies at Subway restaurants in Oakland County this week.
A worker told investigators a man wearing an orange construction vest and a dust mask partly covering his face entered a store on the 4834 block of Adams Road in Oakland Township about 8 p.m. Sunday and ordered a sandwich.
As the clerk started preparing it, “the subject produced a semi-auto handgun, racked it and demanded the money from the register,” Oakland County sheriff’s officials said in a statement.
Surveillance footage that authorities released Monday showed the suspect, who also wore a red-and-white baseball cap, leave the weapon on the counter while pointed at the employee.
“The suspect then exited the store and fled on foot with the money from the cash register with approximately $200 cash, his Subway Sub sandwich and two cookies,” investigators said.
Two K-9 units followed a track to the back of the shopping center, where police believe a vehicle was waiting for him, according to the release.
While probing that case, investigators say someone on Monday night robbed a Subway on the 6600 block of Dixie Highway in Independence Township.
The suspect acted similarly: He ordered a sandwich and as a worker prepared it, "produced a semi-auto handgun and demanded the money from the register," county officials said in a statement Tuesday. "After taking the money from the register, the subject racked the weapon and ordered the clerk into the freezer."
After fleeing with $200 to $300, the suspect was captured on a nearby business' surveillance camera driving off in a white Dodge Dart or Chrysler 200, according to the release.
The suspect is described as an African-American male, about 30 years old, between 5-feet-10 and 6 feet tall.
