Police: Pontiac man accidentally fires gun, fatally shoots friend in living room
A 19-year-old Pontiac man died Tuesday after a friend accidentally discharged his gun in a living room, Oakland County Sheriff's officials reported.
The victim and three other people were with their 21-year-old friend at a home in the 40 block of Sallee Lane about 3:20 p.m. as the man "began to look closely at" his black semi-automatic handgun, investigators said in a statement.
While handling the weapon registered in his name, the man pulled the trigger and a bullet struck the 19-year-old in the chest as he sat on the couch, according to the release.
Paramedics rushed the teen to McLaren Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The gun owner has not been charged, sheriff's officials said Wednesday. The case is expected to be presented to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
