Police are looking for three suspects who tried to smash a display counter and steal jewelry from a Costco in Madison Heights over the weekend.

The attempted theft happened at about 4:40 p.m. Saturday at the Costco warehouse store on Stephenson Highway near 13 Mile, officials said.

One of the suspects sought by Madison Heights police in an attempted jewelry theft at a Costco store.

According to police, three men entered the store and then separated. One of the men walked to the jewelry counter and struck the glass with a hammer multiple times.

But the man's hammer broke during the attempt, officials said. Police said the suspect is described as a black man, 20 to 30 years old, weighing 160 to 180 pounds, and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and black and white shoes.

Another suspect wanted for an attempted theft at a Madison Heights Costco store.

All three of the men then left the store empty-handed, according to authorities.

Two of the men were seen leaving the store's parking lot in a white Hyundai Sonata while the third man hopped a fence east of the business, police said.

Madison Heights police detectives are trying to identify the suspects and have released pictures of them taken by the store's security surveillance cameras.

This is the third of three suspects who tried a smash and grab at the jewelry counter of a Costco store in Madison Heights, according to police.
