Man slain in Hazel Park home, family member arrested

Hazel Park police are investigating the death of a 65-year-old man as a homicide, and have arrested a family member in what started out as a missing person's case.

Police arrived at the 23300 block of Harding, which is north of Nine Mile and west of Dequindre, to investigate the missing persons case, and instead found the victim dead in the basement of the home.

A family member, described as a 25-year-old male, was soon identified as a suspect, The man was arrested in a traffic stop by deputy sheriffs in Gratiot County, in mid-Michigan. Police did not detail the extent of the family connection or how the man became a suspect.

The suspect has since been transported back to Oakland County to await charges.
