Oakland crews rescue helicopter pilot after crash
A helicopter pilot survived a crash in Orchard Lake with the help of local rescue crews Monday afternoon.
Police and fire officials found the helicopter on its side near the 5000 block of Pontiac Trail around 2:45 p.m. Crews put out a small fire and pushed over the helicopter so they could remove the pilot, who was conscious, according to the Orchard Lake Police Department's Facebook post Monday.
He was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators determined that the privately owned aircraft was landing when it "went into a spin and subsequently crashed," according to the Facebook post. There were no other injuries or property damage.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
