Brandon McAdory, 25, of Oak Park waves an American flag at motorists on the freeway overpass at Greenfield and I-696 in Oak Park Tuesday. "I just think it's the right thing to do," he said. "I love this country and want to make sure those people who died on 9/11 are never forgotten."

On a day when communities and families around the country gathered in public or private to honor victims and heroes of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Brandon McAdory stood alone on the Interstate 696 overpass at Greenfield on Tuesday, waving an American flag at passing cars.

Some motorists honked. Others waved.

McAdory, 25 of Oak Park said he felt compelled, on the 17th anniversary of the attacks, to honor the Sept. 11 2001, victims.

“I just think it’s the right thing to do,” said McAdory, a construction worker who specializes in basements. “I love this country and want to make sure those people who died on 911 are never forgotten.”
