An 18-year-old Detroit man has been arrested and charged in connection with a carjacking and armed robbery in Troy, police said.

Marquel Williams was arraigned in court on charges of carjacking and armed robbery, Troy police officials said. A judge ordered him held on a $500,000 bond. If convicted of carjacking, a felony, he faces up to life in prison.

Police said the carjacking and robbery happened at about 10 p.m. on Sept. 12 at the Planet Fitness gym on John R. near 14 Mile.

The victims, a man and woman, were leaving when a man approached them, pointed a gun at them and demanded their wallets and keys, police said.

The suspect took a 2016 Dodge Charger from one of the victims and fled south on John R., according to authorities.

Detectives located the car the next day in Oak Park and the suspect had been driving the vehicle, officials said.
