Police: Alleged drunk driver hit house, found hiding in boxers

An Orion Township man is facing charges after allegedly crashing into a house while driving drunk then fleeing the scene, Oakland County Sheriff's officials said.

No one was home when the 36-year-old's Jeep Cherokee plowed through the kitchen in the 600 block of Joslyn about 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, but "due to the extensive damage to the vehicle and house, the suspect had to escape through the sun roof," investigators said in a statement.

After failing to find the man, sheriff's officials called in a K-9 deputy to track him. The dog followed his scent to an area about a half-mile away, near the man's home, where officers spotted him hiding in a bush clad only in boxer shorts, according to the county.

The man appeared highly intoxicated and refused a preliminary breath test, authorities reported.  

A loaded .45 semi-automatic handgun was found in the man's Jeep. Meanwhile, Michigan Law Enforcement Information Network records showed his driver’s license was suspended multiple times, the man had been previously been arrested for operating while intoxicated and he did not have a concealed weapons permit, investigators said.

Paramedics transported the man to McLaren Hospital for a blood test. He is not expected to be arraigned until the results are returned, sheriff's officials said Thursday.
