Efforts underway to curb contamination in Mich. stream

Wixom – A company says it’s taking steps to reduce contamination in a stream that feeds a southeastern Michigan river that’s been the subject of health advisories .

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality recently confirmed that an industrial wastewater customer in Wixom was the source of PFAS contamination. The company was identified through documents obtained by MLive.com as Adept Plating and Plastics, now operating as Tribar Manufacturing.

The state is looking to reduce the amount flowing into Norton Creek in treated water from Wixom. The creek flows into the Huron River.

Wixom is working with the company on the issue. A statement from Adept/Tribar says the automotive supplier that produces chrome-plated plastic components “may be able to address this condition in its waste stream and is aggressively working towards a comprehensive solution.”
