Troy — A man and woman were arraigned Wednesday on charges of robbing a Walmart and leading officers on a chase, police said. 

Chay Ryan Beckett was arraigned on charges of armed robbery, fleeing and eluding, home invasion and two counts of malicious destruction of police property. Beckett was denied bond. 

His counterpart, Christina Maria Vlaz, was arraigned on a charge of armed robbery. Her bond was set at $250,000. 

Troy Police said the incident occurred at 4:30 p.m. Monday at the Troy Walmart on 2001 West Maple. Beckett and Vlaz were trying to steal several televisions and when store employees approached the pair to stop them, Beckett pointed a gun at them, police said. 

Officers found Beckett and Vlaz in the parking lot in a silver Honda Civic. Beckett, the driver, rammed one of the police vehicles and fled into Clawson, police said.

During the pursuit, Vlaz jumped out of the car on Langley east of Crooks and ran. Officers attempted to block the suspects’ car. Beckett pulled away and the car collided with a patrol car,police said.

Police said Beckett continued to speed through a residential area. One of the officers attempted to stop Beckett by pulling in front of his car. Beckett slowed, left the car in drive and jumped out on foot. The suspect’s vehicle collided with another patrol car.

Beckett then entered a house on Bywood and ordered the female resident to turn over her car keys to him. The resident did not know Beckett or permit him into her home, police said.

Troy and Clawson officers surrounded the house. Officers were able to guide the resident to safely leave the home. Beckett then exited the house and was taken into custody without incident, police said.

The Royal Oak Police Department K-9 unit responded to the area and located Vlaz, who was hiding. 

Beckett is under investigation for possible involvement an armed robbery that occurred at 4:40 p.m. on Sept. 30 at a Walmart in Rochester Hills, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's office.

Beckett and Vlaz are also under investigation for failing to pay for food at a Big Boy in Orion Township on Sept. 30, police said.

Beckett and Vlaz are being held at the Oakland County Jail on the Troy and Clawson charges.
