Ex-Avondale teacher charged in sex assault of student
A former Avondale High School teacher has been charged with sexual assault, Troy police said Tuesday.
Aaron Donaghy, 47, of Troy, was arraigned in 52-4 District Court on three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, according to officials. A judge set his bond at $75,000 and ordered him not to have any contact with the alleged victim or any children under the age of 18.
Police said the charges stem from incidents that happened between 1999 and 2000 in Troy when Donaghy was a teacher at Avondale High School in Auburn Hills. The incidents occurred at Donaghy’s former residence, an apartment in the area of Coolidge and Maple, authorities allege.
Officials said when the incidents happened, the female victim was a 15-year-old student at Avondale High. At the time, Donaghy was 27 and teaching at the school.
Police said he is no longer employed by the school district.
