A 17-year-old South Lyon High School student has been arrested in connection with making an alleged threat against staff and other students, officials said.

The student is being held at the Oakland County Jail pending charges. Authorities are not yet releasing his name.

Officials with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said Thursday the suspect was taken into custody after a deputy assigned to South Lyon High School received an anonymous tip about a student planning to get a firearm to shoot up the school. The deputy received the tip at about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The deputy interviewed the student, who refused to cooperate with the investigation, according to police.

Deputies obtained further information about a student from whom the suspect attempted to obtain a firearm. That student told investigators he refused to supply the suspect with a weapon.
