Pontiac — Deputy sheriffs in Oakland County are on the lookout Monday for the father of a 1-year-old boy hospitalized with head injuries

Police responded to Children's Hospital in Detroit after being called for suspected child abuse.

The boy had been transferred to Children's Hospital from McLaren-Oakland Hospital in Pontiac, suffering from severe head and torso injuries, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

Hospital staff had to resuscitate the boy by using CPR, and emergency surgery was necessary to alleviate swelling on the brain.

Staff at McLaren-Oakland told deputies that a man identifying himself as the boy's father had dropped him off at the hospital, telling them he had fallen off a playscape.

But medical professionals do not belief the boy's injuries are consistent with what's been described, the sheriff's office said.

Hospital staff notified Children's Protective Services, which called the sheriff's office.

Police are still looking to speak to the boy's father. The boy himself is in stable but serious condition.
