Ferndale cops clear suspect accused of dropping screws in parking lots
Ferndale — Ferndale police have ruled out a man as a suspect Tuesday as being responsible for dropping hundreds of screws in the police department and courthouse parking lots.
After posting a man's picture on social media Friday, police are retracting their statement and said the man is innocent.
"Thanks to our media partners we have spoken to the man in these pics & ruled him out as (a) suspect," officials posted on Twitter. "We strongly believe in not only arresting the guilty but in exonerating the innocent."
Police continue to search for a suspect who left screws in the entryway and exit of the parking lot of the Ferndale Police Department's building on the south side of Nine Mile near Woodward, which damaged the tires of three cars on Oct. 29.
Screws were also found in the parking lot of the district courthouse as well as the alley behind it, Police Sgt. Baron Brown said. The court house is across the street from the police station on the north side of Nine Mile.
Anyone with information about the suspect or the incident should call the Ferndale Police at (248) 541-3650 or Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
